What do you call camping if you're technically staying in a cabin and basically have all the luxuries of home? A long time ago, we decided it's called cabining. Forget that it makes no sense, considering otherwise it isn't called tenting. But this experience is so far removed from truly roughing it in the outdoors like the word "camping" implies that it needed another term. Especially, when the cabin is three stories with six bedrooms, a lanai and a hot tub. Of course, we didn't have all the comforts of home. For one, there was no wireless or cell service. This forced us to get back to our roots. We had to communicate and entertain ourselves the way our forefathers might have. So we got in touch with nature, enjoyed each other's company and found out who was brave enough to take the make-shift "zip line" across a somewhat stagnant looking pond. The rest of the weekend was spent talking, laughing and eating...there was a lot of eating. Our forced disconnect from the rest of the world ensured we focused on what really matters - spending time together. Unfortunately, I didn't get a picture of the larger group. We've all been going through big life stuff lately like grad school, engagements, marriages and new jobs. Sometimes, it's nice to stick your phone in your purse and leave it there for a couple of days.
